the used 3090 home box math stopped working for me sometime this year

ok so i built the recommended used 3090 box last year and it was clearly the value pick then. i'm less sure now and i want to argue myself out of recommending it on reflex. numbers from mine: ~30 tok/s on a 30b q4, which is fine. the costs that don't show up in the tok/s headline are the ones that got me. the card runs hot enough that i had to redo case airflow, the psu transient spikes tripped my ok-ish 750w unit twice before i went to 1000w, and used 3090 prices in my region drifted back up as everyone else read the same reddit thread. against that you have a $20/mo hosted plan that is faster, on a better model, and doesn't heat my office. i still run local for the privacy and the tinkering, which is a real reason. but 'value pick' should mean value and for a lot of people i think the honest answer now is just pay the 20. what's the counterargument that isn't 'but i like owning it'
